Hi, I’m Melanie!

I started this page in June 2025 because I’ve noticed that social media seems to be pushing, what feels to me like, the same 25 low level fantasy books on everyone lately. They all kind of look the same, they all have basically the same title, and more or less the same storyline. It’s all very sad and boring. As someone who has loved literature since I was a toddler, I cannot bear to see it.

There is such a wealth of magnificent books out there. I was fortunate enough throughout my life, that both my parents were avid readers, so I grew up in a house filled with books, and in school I had various teachers who made sure we read classics from all over the world. Which I am unbelievably thankful for, and it is exactly that, that I want to share with you now.

I want to introduce you to your new favourite book, or author, or genre, or demographic. My own reading is wildly eclectic, and that’s exactly what I want to share with you. Here, you will not encounter the same thing over and over again, inside a different cover. I want to take you on adventures around the globe, transcending genres, and through reads for any mood. I can’t wait for you to discover yourself, and new worlds between these pages!

Now you may be wondering, “Why Stories & Salt”?

It seems to me, that we are all a product of our unique experiences, and that those experiences come from stories we live in our own life, or stories that we find in books. It is how we grow and develop, how we change our perspectives and opinions.

Similarly, who we are as people is shaped largely by how we feel, by what drives us, and I remember seeing a quote a few years ago that stuck with me. The quote said, ”The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea,” and I feel like that does sum up a lot of our lives. A workout is always a good idea, obviously. Tears can be happy or sad, but they are always an expression of intense emotion. The ocean, to me personally, is my first love and I never feel more at home than when I am looking out over the waves.

So whatever you have going on in your life right now, I promise you that a good book, a good workout, maybe a good cry, and a stroll outside, are exactly what you need. Always. Everything is stories and salt.
